Our urban boundaries are intended to identify contiguous urban spaces that represent cities as people understand them. A good boundary should divide urban from rural land, and join neighboring cities to each other when there is no substantive economic boundary between them.
This page lets you compare our boundaries to the primary global standard used for urban boundaries, the Global Human Settlements Layer UCDB. Please let us know if you find cities for which our boundaries perform poorly. This explorer includes the top 200 urban agglomerations in our database by population.
